I felt strong hands gently touch my shoulder. The heat from his palm warmed me all the way to my bones, and I groaned and leaned into him. My nostrils flared and his masculine scent filled my nose. Tilting my head, I opened my eyes, and stared into his dark blue eyes.

His hand touched my face. “Amber are you well?”

Blushing I sat up, “Yes. Everything is alright?” Tavish was still curled up at my side. I looked away and stood up. There was something about him that drew me nearer to him.

Arid stepped back. “Yes, let us leave this place. I will be right outside. You have a few mintos to prepare to leave.”

It didn’t take long for me to relieve myself. I wanted a bath and I would kill for a toothbrush and hair comb but this wasn’t the Four Seasons Hotel. The sooner we were in the air the better. Arid was quiet which meant I couldn’t read him. It didn’t matter though since I intended to tell him that I was going with them to get my friend. It would not make sense to go all the way back to Zucury to drop me off. I wasn’t about to leave her in danger longer than she already had been.

Stepping from behind the bushes, I hurried over to Arid. He didn’t have on the same clothes as he had worn yesterday. He had on black armor like a Shinobi ninja. His face was covered and all you could see was his piercing blue eyes and green skin. Thanks to him, neither was I. His shirt was large and flowy on me. Secretly, I was glad because I didn’t want to look plump.

The men weren’t around and I frowned. “Did I make us late?”

He smiled. The lines around his eyes crinkled. “No, I wanted you to have your rest.”

Arid handed me three kabobs with meat, pineapples, and berries. “Here, you need sustenance.”

“Thank you.”

“Don’t you want to eat?”

I tried to hand him back two of the kabobs but he shook his head.

The meat didn’t look like chicken or beef, but it smelled wonderful. Smiling, I took a tentative bite. It was juicy and flavorful. Bending, I fed Tavish several pieces. I didn’t stop feeding him until he turned his head away.

“You would make a great mother.”

I shrugged. “Thanks, but I haven’t given motherhood much thought. You think you have something special with a man and you love him, but he doesn’t love you. Children should be created out of love. They should be shown the beauty of love and family but sometimes you choose the wrong man.”

Arid touched my face. “Do you have children?”

“No, and I don’t want any.” Picking up Tavish, I moved forward.

This wasn’t a conversation he and I needed to have. The way he stared at me made butterflies flutter inside in my belly. I felt naked and raw.

He turned me around. “The man that put that sadness inside you isn’t worth your thoughts or emotions. When you meet the right man, you will know it, and he will love you.
